iExperience Narrative Assessment

Learner:  Momo              Learning Coach: Mr Hattie            Date: 15 September 2015
Learning Area: iExperience
Learning Observed
This week the learners got to have an interesting experience. They had to work collaboratively while exploring and experiencing play with a tyre. This is part of a way that we can spark some interesting discussions and writing around a real life experience while gaining new vocabulary. Momo was with her group and discussing the different ways that her and her group could move the tyre. They were very excited and the new vocabulary that came out of this was great to hear. Momo contributed to the discussion but was more interested in how squishy and bendy the tyre was.
Evidence of learning
           IMG_1191.jpg

Momo was having fun testing how squishy it was.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
“Collaboration” was one of the vision principles that were being used during this activity. “Curious” was another vision principle that was being used as the learners had a lot of questions.
Next Learning Steps
Momo’s next learning steps are:
  • create some writing about her experience to use her new vocabulary.

iExplore- Cubism

Learner:   Momo      Learning Coach:   Luisa Maloni            Date: 4th September, 2015
Learning Area: iExplore: Visual Art: Cubism
Learning Observed
We have been learning about the art movement Cubism. We have looked at many examples of cubism and have created our own studies using the cubist style. Momo used the elements of shape and fracture as well as using different shades of one colour to create a study of a tree and a painting. Momo used line and colour creatively and dynamically in her tree study and then used confident brush strokes in paint and ink. She then looked at images on the internet to choose an artistic exemplar she was interested in trying. Momo chose an image of a heart and then created her own study using ideas from her artistic exemplar.
Evidence of learning
IMG_0145.jpgIMG_0244.jpgIMG_0125.JPG

Momo uses an artistic exemplar to explore ideas about Cubism. She has a clear talent for Visual Art. I can’t wait to see her final work!
Key Competencies/Vision Principles

Momo demonstrates the Vision principles of Curiosity in experimenting with and searching for new ideas in cubism, Capability in executing beautiful, bold and expressive artworks and Connected in connecting with what other artists are doing within the art style of Cubism. She uses the Key Competencies of Thinking as she develops her own creativity as well as follow an inquiry process.
Next Learning Steps

  • Use new language to describe her artworks e.g. shape, fracture, hues, shades
  • Describe what she has learned and say what her next steps are

We Built this City!

Learner: Momo       Learning Coach: Luisa Maloni    Date: 7th May, 2015
Learning Area: iExplore: We Built This City
Learning Observed
Due to the high interest in building structures out of the magnetic shapes, we have embarked upon an iExplore learning adventure designing and constructing a city out of cardboard. Momo has worked thoughtfully throughout this project and was able to think of multiple designs for her building. She has worked with Alesha to construct her building and uses the word cylinder to describe her towers.
Evidence of learning

Momo is able to work with others to try out ideas for her building.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Momo shows that she can work Collaboratively with others toward a common goal (Participating and Contributing). She uses her creativity and Thinking skills to trial her ideas with the materials she has available and to describe the purpose of her building. In learning new vocabulary she is building her Capabilities in Using language, Symbols and text.
Next Learning Steps

  • Develop her ideas about the purpose of structures as she designs and constructs other structures. Can she describe her building using new or appropriate topic vocabulary? E.g. factory, apartment, skyscraper, offices etc...Can she show how her design includes modifications to suit the purpose of her building? E.g. one large space and a kitchen/storage area for a restaurant
  • Develop problem solving skills in completing her structure i.e. how to bring all of her construction elements together

Literacy - Term 2

Learner: Momo           Learning Coach: Abby Morgan                 Date: 22 April 2015
Learning Area: Literacy
Learning Observed
During a learning conversation with Momo I noticed her ability to correctly name 10 of 12 body parts. She was able to quickly recall the names for many and only sought assistance with identifying knee and little finger. Momo was able to correctly tell me the opposites for big, hard, slow, and quiet. In the video link below you can see Momo is developing her storytelling ability and is able to identify what individuals are doing in the picture.
Evidence of learning
Momo Oral Language Sample - Link to YouTube Video

Learner: Momo                     Learning Coach: Abby Morgan          Date: 10 February 2015
Learning Area: Math
Learning Observed
As part of developing understandings of shapes and how they occur in our natural environment the learners were asked to identify as many shapes in Ormiston as possible. To begin we identified shapes we knew then went about finding them in our Habitat. Momo was able to identify squares in the capart pattern, rectangles on the ceiling, and a circle in our school logo! Momo has a wide range of knowledge about shapes and is able to share this with others.
Evidence of learning
Momo was able to identify shapes in our school environment - even in our logo!
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Momo was displaying the Key Competencies of using language, symbols, and texts as she was able to communicate her ideas to others and was applying her thinking skills to decode and identify the shapes in our environment. Momo was using the Vision Principles of capable as she was using existing knowledge and extending her capabilities.
Next Learning Steps
  • Introduce to the properties and attributes of shapes
  • Explore understandings of 3D shapes
  • Explore construction using 3D shapes

Learner: Angkor and Momo     Learning Coach: Abby Morgan       Date: 4 February
Learning Area: Literacy
Learning Observed
During iExplore time I sat with Momo and Angkor looking at the alphabet bean bags, together we created a game where we would take turns showing the letter then racing to name it and a word that starts with that letter. After we had used all the bean bags I asked if they could put them in alphabetical order. Together Momo and Angkor began sorting the bean bags. Angkor was identifying words that started with the letter they were up too. When Angkor got to the letter L he told me he knew a song all about it. I asked him to sing it for me (See the link below). Angkor was able to recite the song that uses alliteration and instructs on how to draw it. He felt very proud when I showed him the video.
Evidence of learning
Angkor and Momo sorting the bean bags into alphabetical order.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Angkor and Momo were effectively collaborating as they worked together to complete the learning activity they had created. Angkor began our learning adventure through his curious nature. While looking around our habitat he came across the bean bags and together we created the game. Momo and Angkor were both applying the Key Competencies of thinking, using language, symbols, and texts.
Next Learning Steps
  • Learn the New Zealand Sign Language for the letters
  • Identify the sounds the letters make
  • Record the letters
